Hello 2021!
Hello all!
It’s 2021 and it’s my first post for this newsletter. Thank you for signing up! I’m hoping this year will be kinder to us all.
Since we’re at the beginning of a year, I figured it’d be a good time to set some goals. I always enjoy having a few, even if I can’t fully meet all of them. It’s always good to have something to work towards.
This year, I’ve decided I want to place more emphasis on my music, as it’s something that in recent years has been pushed to the side a little too often than I’d like. That being said, I still have writing goals too!
Let’s get started.
Goals of 2021
Edit and revise book #3: This past year, I managed to complete a draft of my third book. I’m honestly very happy with the way it’s turned out, but nothing is ever truly done, and there’s still parts I want to tweak. Ideally, I want to have it prepared to be submitted to presses by the end of 2021.
Finish sheet music for a concept album: I’ve always wanted to do a concept album, and as a fan of musical theatre and songs that tell a story, I knew it was only a matter of time! In 2020, I came up with a concept and wrote the lyrics. Now, I need to notate the songs and arrange them for the ensemble I want. By 2022, I’d like to be able to organize recording it!
Release short film music: Over the last five or so years, I’ve been scoring short films! I’ve learned a lot about digital music production as I’ve gone along, and I’d love to revisit the tracks I’ve written for the screen, clean them up a little production-wise, and release them for download in one album.
Usually, I set a goal for writing a new novel draft, but I’ve decided to switch it up this year. Of course, I’m sure I’ll write something new now and again, but I really need to place my focus on finishing things for 2021! And I think a break from drafting might be nice. I’ve been doing a lot of it in recent years. I’m tired!
Music of the Month
Since I listen to a lot of music daily, I thought it would also be a nice monthly feature to share something I’ve been listening to recently.
Tim Baker - Forever Overhead: Tim Baker’s songs were often making appearances in my Spotify mixes, so I decided to check out the album where they were all coming from. Sometimes, that Spotify algorithm reads you right! I loved the production and lyrics of this album. My favourites are “Dance” and “Strange River.”
Let’s hope for a great 2021! While I’m sure it’ll still be a challenging year, I’m hopeful for a fresh start. I wish you all the best! Let’s see where the future takes us.
